hot summer weather

i have survived blackouts before, back in brisbane, when i was still living with 2 other souls. so, it was rather interesting to note my own reaction when i experienced a blackout whilst living alone in a huge house in perth, and having no one to run to!

sunday was a hot hot hot day, and i am eternally thankfully to have been so blessed by my sister, who has very generously loaned me her car, which is a spunky toyota coralla hatchback, with AIRCON! there was a time when i had my reservations about driving this car...for it is a manual, and im more used to being a lazy driver...and driving an automatic. but now, im not only driving it like a pro...but am actually enjoying it!

on top of that, i recently installed a new stereo sound system which is pretty top of the range by my standards...and i can even play my ipod!

anyways...

so i came home, and parked my car in the garage, and entered a house that felt almost like a steam room. it was just sooo uncomfortably hot. managed to somehow cool the house down with the open windows and fan at full blast while i slumped down in front of it on the couch...watching the heart racing match between federer and gonzalez. i am really happy that federer won. he is indeed the better player and totally deserved the win.

so just a federer was about to end his thank you speech after the game, a lightning display occured outside my balcony...following by my table lamp flickering twice and soon i was left in total darkness....

"OH CRAP" (excuse the language), but that was the first thing that came out of my mouth. the second thought that to mind was...how am i going to be getting car out of the garage to drive to work tomorrow morning?

thankfully, i still kept my wits about me...managed to call my neighbour to confirm that it was indeed a blackout in the estate, and not just my place. found the failing torchlight and scented candles to provide some romantic glows.

sat down back in the couch, and figured what should i do at 930pm in almost total darkness. sleep was too soon and too difficult.

by 10pm i had tried to settle myself into bed...but it was a futile effort. it felt like 40 degrees in my room, with the wind deciding NOT to head towards my general direction...and just mucking around with me for i can hear the furious swishing of the leaves and branches outside. i was perspiring like a mad cow.

i knew that it was not going to be a good night, nor day for me tomorrow...with my car still stuck in the garage!

thankfully, i was still sane enough to decide to leave the fan on...and my brilliant moment paid off, when i realised that the electricity came on back at 1am, awakening me from my drowsy and uncomfortable stupor.

i then hurried myself into my friend's room...where i turned the airconditioning down to an icy cold 22 degrees, and fell into a deep peaceful sleep knowing that i can drive to work tomorrow.

thank God for his little blessings...like an airconditioned car and room!
