Cambodia, Day 1
So we have finally arrived at Phnom Penh international airport. And as much as it’s an international airport, the size of it is comparable to a domestic one.
I wondered what this day will bring. I found quite quickly, that my fears of not finding any like-minded friends were unwarranted. In particular 2 girls, who eventually became my roommates for the whole trip, were the ones who reached out and offered their friendship first. Lina and Hannah, were the ones who waited for me, whilst I lugged my hand luggage and myself, across from the security check to the chairs, and waited once again, when I struggled to finish filling in my immigration card particulars. This was even before I knew their names. The trip from the airport to Comfort Inn Hotel, although short, was long enough to widen our eyes to the differences between 2 countries, just less then 2 hours away from each other. The dust, the unfinished roads, the lack of traffic rules and regulations, the people… The main event of the day was getting to enjoy a concert called “One Cube”. An outreach event that uses MTV style Christian music to reach out the mass of youths gathered in Chenla Theatre. His presence could be felt and seen, by the number of youths, who eagerly rushed to the front for the altar call. Their excitement and enthusiasm was as though they found the greatest treasure of all. And truly, they did. They found Jesus. In my seat, I found myself crying tears of joy, and a sense of understanding of why I am doing what I am doing. At the days end, tired as we were, we were filled with joy and expectation for the days to come, and came together, as body of Christ to give thanks for all that He has done and all that He is going to do. |
