First Aid
My first time attending to an emergency situation scared the *beep* right out of me.
There I was, happily "galek'in" to the hospital, when a lady landed with a loud thud just in front of me.
Instinctively, my feet started running, before my brain willed it to. I knelt beside her...
It is all a blur right now.
The clearest thoughts that permeate from yesterday was..."where is your freakin' pulse woman!" and "please Lord, I really don't want to have to start doing CPR..."
Thankfully, I wasn't the only one who had their knees scraped by the pathway. Another passer-by stopped to help out, and she had the common wisdom to grab the fallen lady's clutch and place it under her head for comfort. I, in my own flurried state, didnt think about it.
The passer-by then asked if I was a nurse, and I told her that I was a medical student.
"oh, that's good enough"...
Whoa.....
I am scared, and in fact, somewhat terrified of the amount of trust that people put in a label. Knowing that my label gets 'promoted' to a 'Dr.' next year is really daunting.
I will definitely be needing all the help that I can get. Especially help from above.
