A Bruised Ego
My back is groaning and my feet are moaning...thats what ice-skating can do to you. As much as I wished that I was a natural ballerina on ice, I am not. No olympic medal for me for figure skating thats for sure.
According to one of the more pro skaters that we happen to bump into at the rink, I will need a least 7 weeks worth of skating to really get the hang of it...and probably be able to skate in all directions as well. One thing though, I truly wished that I knew how to fall that little more glamorously. Its seems that I did alittle bit more of a belly flop that I wished, and revealed some hidden folds...that well, I wished remained hidden. My ego was more bruised then the fall itself. I did however work some of that folds off, not only through the graceful motion of slicing through ice at break neck speeds, but also laughing at some of the wonderful antics of a friendly counterpart. My friend here...definitely deserves an 'A' for effort. Long after I have given up on becoming the next best asian ice skater, he persisted relentlessly...he seemed to have wanted to become a jedi in the art of shaved ice. Really. Half of the shaved ice that we left behind, almost in a consistent pattern along the rim of the ice rink was all contributed by him. If we gathered them all up, we might just be able to make say...2 small bowls of ice kachang? Chafed skin, sore limbs, blistering feet and bleeding orifices aside, I had a good workout and an interesting time. Thanks. |
