I've got a Crush on You

I first heard ‘Angel Eyes’ by Paulini yesterday, over my 9-year-old Aiwa stereo. Since then, my ears have been on a constant alert to trigger my reflex actions, which I am happy to say are intact, seeing how my lightening fast reaction to reach for the volume control to turn it up was made in a record time today. My own record time all right?

It is only recently, say in the past 2 years that I have started to make it a point to actually listen to what is being sung. Previously I would be contented with humming the tune, and only bursting out during the chorus, after which, was followed again with my continuous humming.

Now I have improved, and at least know the first verse of a song (and the chorus).

It has also come to my attention, not too long ago, that most of the songs that are out there are usually all about love and relationships (yes, I am delayed in some mental faculties), and I casually asked my friend if she knew that as well (I was hoping that I wasn’t the only cow that thought so).

Well, apparently I am the only cow, and she said that, when she was young (gosh, I am THAT SLOW…) she asked her dad, why most of the songs that she has heard, are all about love. Her dad wisely told her, that sometimes, it is only in songs and music, that we can convey our truest feelings and emotions. Wise father that one.

And so I have learnt, to start to appreciate the lyrics of the songs, where once upon a time, I was contented to just know their tune and hum along to them, sometimes in a rather retarded manner (I am starting to see a trend here…)

And of course, all of us have our own songs that we can identify with.

I remember the first song that I identified with. ‘Crush’ by Mandy Moore. You could say, that I am a girl who is constantly having crushes. Yes, I am already 23, and I still have crushes. I have been told to grow up and get real. Crushes are meant for the teenybopper years and I am not sweet sixteen anymore.

I don’t care.

I love having a crush. It’s the secrecy of it, the sharing of your thoughts with your closest girl pals. Constantly in wonderment, of what the guy is thinking about, and always trying to read between the lines of what he says and what he does, wondering if his words or actions, means anything significant. Always thinking, whether is there ever a right time to blurt out to him that you like him (there is NEVER a right time). It’s an emotional joyride of course, but I think it’s the safest way to be in love, but yet, not be in love?

I digress.

‘Crush’ expresses everything, well almost everything that I feel when I have a crush on someone.

I’ve got a crush on you
I hope you feel the way that I do
I get a rush when I am with you
I’ve got a crush on you

-‘Crush’ by Mandy Moore

And of course, now, the new song that I can identify with is ‘Angel Eyes’ by Paulini. Don’t exactly know why though, for I am not with anyone yet (yes, nice, single and available men, please leave your contact details on my tagboard if you are interested). Guess I will just have to wait till someone comes along.

Maybe when a crush becomes a crush no more?
