There is always a first for new things, and yesterday, was the first time, that I was an event volunteer working as an usher at the Youth Alive concernt at the Brisbane Convention Center. Man, I felt old! There were close to about 2000 teenagers, rushing into the convention hall, and I certainly couldnt hold them back. I was station quite close to the stage, and you should have seen how the crowd of kids just ran down to the front of the stage when the gig started. I have to say, this seems to be more like a rock gig then a praise and worship thing. This is so not me. For most of the time, I could see kid's heads bobbing up and down, and people jumping all over the place.
Also, for what I thought was going to be an easy job, certainly wasn't! First and foremost, the logistics weren't dealt with properly, and we weren't told at the briefing not to let the people sit upstairs until the bottom has been filled. So here I was, having to deal with irate crowds, asking why there were already people sitting up there, while they can't go up...so trying to deal with the situation, I told the lady, that I will ask the event coordinator, and as I already knew it, he said no (he was just down the other side of the aisle). So when I was walking back, the lady saw me, and I mouthed to her, that he said no...the next thing I know, he was letting people up the aisle on the other side...what duhz...this woman probably left thinking the worst of me. Oh well, stuff like this happen I suppose. On the whole, it was pretty good. Half of the proceeds that collected last night went to the Royal Children's Hospital, and so they played a small video segement. All that I can tell you is that, seeing that video, just make me even want to become a doctor more. In addition, World Vision was also there, asking for sponsors, and they too played a small video segment, and when I watch it, I could hear myself saying to God, send me! Send me! I want to go to where these people are. Well, guess we will just have to see where God leads me. |
